Bill 28th August 2016

Vince was a great man with a great heart. A man with absolute commitment to any cause he took up. A clever man who had a solution to almost any problem that he came across. A man with great empathy and understanding of other’s foibles. Forgiving, self-effacing, thoughtful, capable and with a fine sense of humour. A man with great love for his family. I first knew Vince through church and at some stage he somehow persuaded me that I ought to join some choir or other that he was a member of. It turned out to be the Valentine Singers, so that’s something I definitely have to thank him for. I got my own back by asking him to become a Foundation Governor at St. Aidan’s Catholic Primary School! He agreed without hesitation and was a great support to me personally when going through some trying times as you do with any school responsibility. We often stood on the corner of Brisbane and Balfour Roads for ages after a school meeting or Mass on a Sunday evening, putting the world to rights for whatever reason and trying to make sense of it all. He was good at that. His commitment to the Valentine Singers was complete, both as a singer and as a concert manager. He was amazingly strong – I saw him lift stuff at times, so heavy and awkward that it used to worry me. It never seemed to affect him! He was extremely competent, and very diplomatic when it came to dealing with some venues – he had great charm. When Vince became ill it was a huge shock to all of us, not least to lovely Viv and the family. There seemed to be high hopes after the initial treatment but, unfortunately, a slow and steady decline eventually set in. His was a very gentle passing. Dear Vince, you’ll always be in our thoughts and prayers. Rest in peace old friend. Much love, Bill and Eileen.
